Remember playing with paper dolls? The 2D kind you fold over? Yeah, that’s today's latest fashion trend.
Jeremy Scott brought paper dolls back this weekend with the MOSCHINO Spring/Summer 2017 Ready-to-Wear collection. It’s not too far-fetched for Scott, who has designed his own Barbies and pulled influences from cartoons and The Simpsons for years now. But what’s really special about Jeremy Scott’s approach to fashion is that he subverts reality by bringing fantasy elements into every day life and clothes that are meant to be “pret-à-porter.” Think about it – the MOSCHINO SS17 show was essentially an IRL doll playground. It’s speculated to be some sort of comment on the facades of everyday life, down to the pill taking as well. Scott basically had the front row howling in nostalgia from his two-dimensional extravaganza.
Scott really had this thought out – the invitation to the MOSCHINO SS17 show was a box of (fake) pills, keeping up with his track record of weird and wonderful invites such as plastic hardhats and Barbie combs.
Well, if MOSCHINO’s the drug, we’re hooked.
