Never ceasing to shock and impress, Hood By Air’s latest project is a book, in conjunction with photographer Pieter Hugo, documenting Jamaica’s male porn stars sporting archive Hood By Air. The book, simplistically titled “PH & HBA,” sees the NYC label and the South African photographer come together to look at a subject less exposed – Jamaican porn stars and “Gully Queens.” Gully Queens make up a gay community in Kingston, vilified, and living in a gully beneath Kingston’s bustling core.
In the past, Pieter Hugo has photographed African communities, including the “Hyena Men” of Nigeria, in visually arresting, visceral documentations. This time, with Hood By Air, he aims to hone HBA’s relationship with America’s queer underground communities.
Hood By Air is available at select retailers worldwide such as Colette in Paris, Dover Street Market in London, New York, Tokyo, and Beijing, and Luisa Via Roma in Florence.
