This is the stuff dreams are made of. Years & Years frontman Olly Alexander recently enlisted young fashion students from Ravensbourne University in London to design his performance costumes. The product: dreamy, futuristic, glittery amazingness, complete with NIKE Air Force Ones. Olly Alexander, already an influential figure in the young British music scene, due to his openness when it comes to LGBTQ issues, mental health, and body image in society, is yet again reaching out to London-based youth to encourage their creative production. When asked what he was looking for, Alexander expressed that outfits should be “colourful, bold and with an element of fantasy.” Alexander also stresses the importance of genderless clothing – he finds gender to be irrelevant and boring, and feels that, when it comes to performing on stage, he is gender ambiguous and “non-binary.” He’s cited his heroes as the likes of Björk, David Bowie, and “anyone who does a look,” citing these legendary performers as his main influences, day in and day out.
