Earlier this week, Balmain creative director and young French visionary Olivier Rousteing revealed his exclusive NikeLab collaboration on Dazed & Confused. Photographed by Nick Knight, the collection is a conceptualized “reinvention of the off-pitch look,” with both a men’s and a women’s line.
Young Olivier rose to fame when he stepped on as Balmain’s creative director, designing opulent, glamourous, yet dark lines for the French fashion house. Since then, he’s gone on to acquire his own celebrity squad, the much loved #BALMAINARMY, consisting of many muses that span from Kendall Jenner to Kim Kardashian and more. Glamourous yet elusive Rousteing is rarely seen leaving a party or club without at least one female celeb on hand, fully clad in Balmain. He calls these “pop culture muses” his inspiration and his motivation.
It’s no surprise that, for this more athletic collection, Rousteing teamed up with Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese football legend. Rousteing identifies himself as a passionate footballed and fan of footballer – he told DAZED that his father was always passionate about it and inspired him to start playing as a young boy growing up in Bordeaux. This football affinity is listed as his main inspiration for the sporty yet low-key luxe collaboration with NikeLab.
