DJ Soulscape is a legendary Korean vinyl DJ, the mastermind behind Seoul’s 360 Sounds crew, and a regular at underground institution Cakeshop. His music echoes various influences, from ‘80s hip-hop, to soul, to retro Korean jams, and more. Last month, he joined us here at j-01 during Art Basel, before heading off to the special YETI OUT x Cakeshop Seoul pop-up club. This week, he’s jetting over to Shanghai with the YETI crew again, for an all-vinyl set at the Parisian institution, Le Baron.
In preparation for his China set, Soulscape chatted with YETI about everything from musical influences, to style, to Korean food. When it came to personal style, he mentioned that he’s honoured to be a part of the Stüssy tribe – as the crew at his imprint, 360 Sounds, proudly reps Stüssy in many of their promo shots and during most of their sets. In terms of vinyls, he stuck to the classics, listings his favourites as Korean psyche, soul, and rock records. And when asked for his top 3 DJs of all time, they were of course Jazzy Jay, Larry Levan, and J Rocc.
